| Philopsophy Mountains enrich many more lives than they take. Though there is always risk in climbing, it is not typically as dramatic as that depicted. The mountains are dispassionate and honest teachers. Each climb instills a discipline, a focus and fuels a passion for life... The more you live the greater you risk. | About Kevin Long Born in County Armagh, my fathers side are from Co. Tyrone (the Long's sweet shop was once well known in Cookstown). I am a recently qualified teacher and live in the Midlands. I work part time for World Challenge Expeditions as a Local School Manager helping 13 schools launch their expeditions. I'm looking to teach numeracy to prisoners and to at-risk children under care. I just got myself engaged up at Kilimanjaro in August 07 to the wonderful Sarah Geal. In June 2006 I raised over GBP700 for the Alzheimers Society by attempting Peak Lenin, a 7135m mountain in the Pamir's. The year before I was supposed to go to Broad Peak (an 8000m next to K2) in attempt to be the first/second Irishman to summit this mountain but broke my shoulder. My ambitions are to be a great teacher and to have alot of fun. Why bother? When descending Mt McKinley, we saw a spectacular dawn over the mountains ... I noticed that I would ordinarily be sitting at my desk at the bank at that time. I realised that at every moment somewhere there is a great dawn; that "there is no such thing as an ordinary day"; that no money can compensate you for the time that you have now. Great Books:
